英语优秀演讲稿篇1

“if i could reach higher, just for one moment to touch the sky…”---this is from my favorite song reach.

when we are appreciating the passionate melody of gloria estefan, we could hardly imagine that she could return to the stage after her paralysis. in the year 1990, this cuban singer was knocked down in a traffic accident, and the doctor declared that she might never walk again. but gloria did not give up and kept up constant exercising. just one year after the disaster, she stood up again and presented this encouraging song at the atlanta olympics.

whenever i think of gloria, i can’t help recalling my memory seven years ago, when i first entered university. naturally shy, ordinary looking, average scores in study, just like an ugly duckling, i seemed to be the least outstanding one in my class. and the successive failures in the beginning led me into despair. “am i destined to take the back seat to others?” unwilling to submit to the fate, i paid more efforts on my study as well as many other activities, film dubbing, recital, drama… cause i just want to catch every little opportunity to prove myself. constant effort yields sure success. thanks to the competition, i received some awards and most of all, i gained the courage and confidence to face any difficulties in my life journey.

life is just like farming, and what you can reap depends a lot on your sowing and dedication. once you have a dream, don’t be hesitant. your next difficult step may be the one to the top. keep going forward, even in the toughest time, and never give up.

when i saw the titile of this essay i am supposed to be writing about, all i felt were its broadness and abstractness. though i am a chinese myself, it had always seemed complicated to tell how much exactly my nationality meant to me until that unforgettable experience in the chinese embassy at the u.k, which made a significant difference to my life. only when i was abroad did i realize how proud i always was for my great country and clarify the relationship between china and me, referring it to that between a mother and a child desperate for help.

it was in the london heathrow international airport that our passports and airplane tickets were stolen a few minutes before the plane took off. despaired and tired as we were, we wandered on the flourishing streets of london and felt isolated from all the nearby lighthearted laughters. it didn't take a long time for the lingering homesickness hit us and reminded us of the chinese embassy at the u.k that might be our sheet anchor. ages passed while we walked to the embassy, suffering from hunger and helplessness with every step we took. sure enough, our eyes were unconsciously filled with tears when we finally reached the spot. i was taken by surprise when the brightly-colored chinese national flag broke through the darkness and appeared once again in front of my eyes, recalling all the pleasure i had at home. it suddenly felt as if i was taken home, a home where all my fear and anxiety vanished and replaced by the hope and warmth that ran all over my body to cheer me up. the ambassadors were all amiable chinese officers and the familiar chinese accent drew me closer to my motherland where we received the only help. the ambassadors made us noodles in the familiar chinese way and settled the accommodation for us. i had tears running down my cheeks when the hot noodles, smelled as pleasant as my mother's at home, filled my stiff empty stomach because i knew i was safe in the arms of my compatriots and there was no need to be worried anymore for i knew i was home.

we successfully returned to beijing the next day and i still couldn't forget the moment when i felt so much closer to my motherland than any other time given, as though our hearts were beating in one melody. had my motherland not saved the day, we would never came back home so quickly without any restriction. for that one brief second when i was handed the brand new passport with a chinese flag printed on it, my heart was overflowed with the pride for my own nation because never has a country i known connected to its people so close as the way my motherland and us related. i was like a child, crying and desperate for help while my mother china is the harbor to hold me, this small vulnerable boat. even though i was out of home, my motherland remained inseparated from me no matter how far i go and is always there to help me back on track whenever in need. i wish you a happy birthday, china. i am so proud of you not only because of your obvious amazing pace in economical development, but also due to the relieved and warm way i felt when i was abroad and enjoyed your ray of love shone on my body and heart. you are the spirits dancing in my blood, the strength holding up my body and and essence making up my soul. i am so honored as a chinese, a member of this dynamic and loving country. for your development and future, it is my responsibility to settle you safely through all the numerous difficulties until we finally make it to the bank where happinese and prosperity is waiting. i love you, china, my dearest mother!

whether there's afterlife, the answer has never been the same. the atheists deny after life, believing that our life is no more than from the cradle to the grave. they may care about their illustrious names after death; they may feel attached to the affection of their offspring, but they never lay their hopes on their afterlife. they may also say that good will be rewarded with good, and evil with evil, but they don't really believe any retribution in their after life.

however, in the religious world or among the superstitious people, the belief in afterlife is very popular. they do not only believe in afterlife, but thousands of reincarnations as well. in the mysterious world, there are the paradise and the hell, the celestial beings and the gods, the buddha and the bodhisattvas.

maybe they really believed it, or maybe they just wanted to make use of people's veneration, the ancient emperors always declared that they were the real dragons, the sons of god, while the royal ministers claimed to be the reincarnations of various constellations. but can the stars reincarnate?

many people burn incense and kowtow, do good deeds and strive for virtues, not just for the present, but mainly to let god see their sincerity so as to be reborn into a better afterlife, or to achieve the highest enlightenment after several lives of practice. they do believe in afterlife. but i can't help asking: suppose there were no afterlife, would you still do good deeds and strive for virtues? and if god does not see what you are doing, would you still be so upright and selfless? if you work, not for serving the public and liberating the others, but just for a better afterlife of your own, isn't it a little too selfish? comparing with this kind of believers, those who don't believe in afterlife, but still keep doing good deeds, are the most sincere and honest philanthropists, because they do them not for themselves but for other.

you may wonder if i believe in afterlife. my answer is: i know nothing about my previous life, so i dare not make improper comments on afterlife. but i do hope there's afterlife! because our present life is so short that so many things slip away before our proper understanding. i have so many dreams, so many wishes, so many ambitions, as well as so many regrets and concerns. if there were no afterlife, all of them will remain unrealized!

i'm not contented with the present commonplace life, i'm very much attached to the affections that should have been mine but have been washed away by the hurrying time, and i yearn for the perfection and maturity if i could start all over again. so believe it or not, i'd rather there were afterlife.

when having to make a choice most people think they have to choose between the two. far too often people go for the latter and naturally choose fun. for instance many people would prefer watching television, or more commonly known as tv to exercising, we all know that it’s true, right? the problem is, if you don’t exercise you will become weak and ultimately out of shape and it is no fun to be out of shape, right? so the question is, why not turn exercise into fun?

as an example, if tv is your favorite thing to do, why not connect your tv set to an electric generator that is charged by a stationary bike, you know, the kind of bike you peddle, that doesn’t go anywhere. so think about it, the more you watch tv, the fitter you’ll be.

now if you are the kind of person who thinks listening to music is fun and you spend many hours alone tap tap tapping your fingers and your toes to the beat, why not take it one step further and get up on your feet and dance, dance, dance.

or maybe you’re the type of person who prefers being with your friends. there are many ways one could have fun with their pals. for instance you could just hang out and do nothing or better yet you could get into a friendly game of basketball or football there is no rule that says everyone has to be as good as yao ming or david beckham, right?

however sometimes there just aren’t enough players, or you may even be alone in which case you could go for a ride on your bike, maybe, stop by the library to borrow a book, or go for a walk around the park and enjoy the sunshine and scenery. before you know it, you’re having fun.

let’s face it, exercise is work and when we think of work we think of thankless underpaid hardships yet it needn’t be this way, if we think of exercise as fun.

for interpersonal relationships, i gradually summed up one of the most in line with the principle of my nature, that is, mutual respect and affinity. i believe that all good friendship is formed naturally and not deliberately obtained. i also think that no matter how good of friends should have a distance, the friendship is too often crowded empty.

get along with others, especially if you are relaxed, in a relaxed and feel of the real lessons learned, i bet you, you must have encountered the same, even if you are engaged in different occupations.

philosophers, poets, musicians, artists have their own jargon. sometimes, the different meaning of the same jargon said. sometimes, speaking with a different meaning of jargon.

but can not climb the hills, the gap between the soul of it is insurmountable. peer jargon we say, spit out the voice of a friend.

among the most profound distinction is not professional, and in the soul.

professor of communication to see the bookstore to sell the success of surgery patients like best-selling book, i feel funny. a person has a good impression on a person, and he or she paid a friend, or

interested in something, try to do it successfully, it would have been natural. do not memorize the main points on the cross can not be friends, do not beg for tips on the do not spiritual cause, we can see how the lack of real emotion really interested. however, there is no real emotion, how it will be true friends? not really interested in, how will it really cause? that being the case, why should diligently and success in communication? that of course there are obvious utilitarian motives, but it is quite apparent deeper reason is that spiritual emptiness, then hid shortcut to the crowd and affairs. i do not know how, only know that if this kind of communication at home, i approached him, i will definitely be more lonely, if such a successful stand in front of me, i will definitely be even more boring.

study, such as making friends, but at least one exception is the time to teach the kind of book arts friends.

personals surgery hing real friends perish.

friendship is tolerance. for this reason, a friend once enemies, it is often irreversible, the differences that they must be very serious, and has reached the point where can not be condoned.

only between good friends can be such a thing occurred in dear john, in the past between the more difficult, more difficult to repair the cracks now, and seems to maintain an acquaintance too unnatural. as for those who have only acquaintance, handed over the case of non-payment of the two may be, it is not a dear john.extraversion personality people easy access to many of my friends, but always a few true friends. introversion are lonely, once friends, often is true.
